Scale practice is fundamental to the growth and maintenance of instrumental skills. In the first stage of the class, memorization of the three octave G major scale and arpeggio is required (fingering is provided). Skills such as the usage of the metronome and a mirror are addressed. Rhythm and bow stroke vocabulary -- legato, martele, spiccato, etc. -- is discussed and applied in a group lesson format. The goal is to achieve a better understanding of instrumental technique and by doing so, greater confidence in expression and an improved level of performance.
Scale class is geared primarily to youngsters ages 10 through 17 and deals with the basics of string playing. Currently, this class is offered for violin only.
Scale class is held on Saturdays from 10:00 to 11:15 at Evangelical United Chruch of Christ. Click here for a map. The cost is $15 per student/per class.

When the appropriate skill level has been achieved, the student then focuses on chamber music. You will find a description of our chamber music class here.

My children leave the class challenged and wanting to work harder for the next session. As a home schooling mom, I also appreciate the opportunity for my children to be around other young violinists who are striving for excellence in their music.
